For community councils
Websites for town and community councils in Wales
Welsh councils have a legal duty to publish specific information online. I build council websites that do that properly, in Welsh and English, and that a clerk can keep up to date in minutes.
A Welsh community council website must publish contact details, councillors' details, meeting notices, minutes, audited accounts, public notices and the register of members' interests. I build sites that cover all of it, bilingually where needed, and that the clerk can update without help.
Built for the clerk, and for residents
Most council websites fail in the same ways: minutes that stop a year ago, a meeting notice that went up late, a site that doesn't come up when residents search for the council's name, and an editing system only one person knows how to use.
I build council sites around the publishing the law asks for, so adding an agenda or a set of minutes is a two-minute job. Everything is organised the way residents look for it, and the site is set up so Google finds it under the council's own name.
Not sure where your current site stands? Read my checklist of what a Welsh council website must include, or ask me for a free check.
Recent work: Llansannan
I built the bilingual website for Llansannan Community Council in Conwy county, with around 190 minutes and agendas from 2016 onwards, councillor and ward pages, site search and a simple editor the clerk uses day to day. Read the case study.
How it works
- Fixed price, agreed up front and sized to a community council's budget, with an optional yearly care plan for hosting and updates.
- Moved for you: I move your existing minutes, documents and domain across, so nothing is lost and old links keep working.
- Training included: a short session for the clerk plus a one-page guide, so publishing never depends on me.
Can you take over our existing domain?
Yes. I'll move your current address across so residents and existing links still work, including .gov.wales or .llyw.cymru addresses where the council has them.
Can the clerk update the site without technical knowledge?
Yes. Publishing an agenda or minutes is a simple online form with a file upload, the same way the Llansannan clerk works. I provide training and a written guide.
Do you build in Welsh?
Yes. Every page can have a Welsh and English version with a language switch that keeps your place. See bilingual websites.
